Sydney: Leadership, Business and Sport: a conversation with Sydney Swans CEO Myles Baron-Hay

01 October 2009

Join alumni of the Australian School of Business at this exclusive event with guest speaker, CEO of the Sydney Swans, Myles Baron-Hay. As well as being responsible for the ‘biggest small business in the world’, Myles (MBA 1988) is an Alumni Leader, and strong supporter of the School. In this conversation with Dean, Professor Alec Cameron, he will talk about cultural change, values and leadership. If you are interested in sport, or simply want to learn more about the challenges and triumphs of running a premier AFL team, register now as numbers are limited.

About Myles Baron-Hay
Originally from Perth, Myles is an engineer with sixteen years experience in the financial services industry who in 2003 was appointed Chief Executive of the Sydney Swans.

Clearly a diverse background, Myles has been Chief Executive or Managing Director of companies in three different industries – commercial construction, funds management and now sports administration. He has been responsible for operations throughout the Asia Pacific region.

An enthusiastic and capable leader of people, Myles builds very strong teams with a shared set of values, a common vision and a clear understanding of what it takes to compete successfully.

A self-confessed sports enthusiast who appreciates most games played at the elite level. In his youth he played for the Claremont Football Club until deemed “surplus to requirements”, is a much better yachtsman having represented Australia, a very honest golfer and enjoys long distance running (albeit long is getting shorter these day).
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil-Hons) from the University of WA and an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management (1987-88).

Myles and his wife Sonya have two children – Darcy (11) and Grace (7).

About Alec Cameron
Professor Cameron is the inaugural Dean of the Australian School of Business at the University of New South Wales. He was responsible for managing the integration of the Australian Graduate School of Management with the Faculty of Commerce and Economics, leading to the creation of the Australian School of Business. He previously held the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Resources and Infrastructure) at UNSW, and prior to this he held senior corporate positions in the IT and telecommunications industry. Professor Cameron is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and serves as a director on the boards of Uniseed Ltd and NewSouth Innovations Pty Ltd. A former first grade Rugby player, Professor Cameron represented Combined Australian Universities and received a Blue in Rugby from Oxford University.
